The Story

Allison is a lifelong learner with a deep passion for education, wellness and self-care. She holds a PhD from Georgetown University and taught at The George Washington University. When she became a certified yoga teacher and registered with Yoga Alliance, she began teaching weekly evening yoga classes to GW students, faculty and staff. When university classes went virtual during the pandemic, she shifted the evening yoga classes online as well. Not only did the regulars keep attending, but their family members joined too! Recognizing the need to connect with each other as well as yourself during that time in particular, Allison experimented with weaving optional guided yoga-based stretch breaks into her academic classes. The students expressed their appreciation and colleagues even invited her to host these breaks in their classes.

Shortly thereafter the idea for Indigo Intermissions emerged: To offer live, online at-your-desk stretching and meditation breaks to companies during the workday. These breaks or "intermissions" are just one of the options Allison offers with Indigo Intermissions today. Some clients have invited her to design and record on-demand courses, others have asked her to give in-person workshops, and one organization brings her back every year to host the "Wellness Studio" at their annual convention. She has since stepped back from her career in academia to focus on Indigo Intermissions and its clients.

Allison has continued her yoga studies and completed a 300-hour teacher training this year. She is currently exploring Yoga Therapy certification programs to further enhance her knowledge and broaden the range of services she offers her clients through Indigo Intermissions.

Allison lives in Reston, VA with her sweet dog Winnie who makes occasional appearances in Indigo Intermissions virtual sessions. Allison is inspired by and grateful for the entrepreneurs in her life, from her grandfather to her father as well as her first professional mentor, Alan Fuerstman, Founder, Chairman & CEO of Montage International.
