Meet Allison

My career has centered on helping people learn, thrive, and feel more at ease in their daily lives. After beginning in ultra-luxury hospitality, I earned a Ph.D. in Spanish Applied Linguistics and taught at universities including Georgetown University and The George Washington University. My work across hospitality, academia, and wellness revealed a common need: intentional pauses that support focus, resilience, and overall well-being.
That insight led to the creation of Indigo Intermissions, a wellness initiative designed to bring mindfulness, movement, and restorative breaks into the workday. Drawing on multiple yoga teaching certifications and years of experience in teaching, leadership, and wellness education, I create approachable, evidence-based experiences that help individuals and teams reduce stress, prevent burnout, and reconnect with themselves throughout the day.

I earned my Ph.D. in Spanish Applied Linguistics, where my research explored how different types of feedback influence learning and retention among students of Spanish. During my doctoral studies, I published peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, received competitive fellowships, and presented at national and international conferences. Along the way, I also honed skills in teaching, curriculum design, and mentorship.
Prior to my doctorate, I completed a Graduate Certificate in Spanish Translation, which strengthened my foundation in language, culture, and communication. Together, these experiences shaped me as both a scholar and an educator, reinforcing my passion for creating supportive, intentional spaces where learning and well-being go hand in hand.

I am a 500-hour yoga teacher, registered with Yoga Alliance. I am trained in the practices and philosophy of asana (poses), pranayama (breath/energy work), meditation, and mindfulness. My training programs emphasize both the depth of traditional yoga and its modern applications through a trauma-sensitive lens, helping me to sequence accessible poses and teach diverse student populations.
Currently, I am advancing my studies to become a certified yoga therapist through Beloved Yoga and Svastha Yoga & Ayurveda in Chennai, India, where I am learning to apply yoga therapeutically to support overall well-being.
These experiences have strengthened my ability to create safe, intentional, and personalized practices for all.
